Favorite Pastime

Sophie's favorite pastime is reading books.  She will first pull out about a dozen from her bookshelf then she'll sit and page through them.  Usually she only reads 2 or 3 of them, but she has to have them all out at once.

Musical Fun

Sophie loves to play with her musical instruments and now that she has figured out how to get the bucket down by herself she plays all the time.



Her new favorite thing is to use each instrument as a drumstick, pounding it on the bottom of the can.

Window Clings

I saw this idea on another blog (unfortunately, I can't remember which one).  The blogger's daughter loves stickers just like Sophie.  She found some vinyl window clings for cheap at a dollar store and lets her daughter use those like stickers wherever they will stick.  I found these Hermie and friends one on the clearance rack at Mardels and brought them out this afternoon.  Sophie was busy for a long time.  Score!

Zoo Trip with Meerkats

We made a trip out to the zoo. We were supposed to be meeting with the moms group to ride the train, but it was closed for the day. We enjoyed watching the meerkats. They came right up to the glass.

Of course we had to stop for a snack. We watched the monkeys as we wait.

After the snack we went to the MOLA to see the reptiles and fish. We don't always go in there because snakes freak me out but today we sat and watched the fish, turtles, and sting rays before heading home for lunch and nap.

Preschool Homework

She may only be one, but even Preschool Freshmen have homework. Thankfully, her Daddy could help her tonight. Her class is making Friendship Snack on Friday. So, we were asked to help her measure out 1 cup of her favorite cereal in a baggie to bring to class.

I think she ate as much as she measured! I think she's going to ace this assignment.

Tramp Stamp

Sophie's first tattoo! The nurse at the doctor's office had a good laugh when she saw it.

Water Play

Sophie loves the water. I honestly don't think she'd care what I put in the tub, but I do try to add something different each time. This time we had some plastic sharks and whales.

Decided to take the water play outside today. It's not as hot as it has been but we still stayed in the shade.

Then she decided it was time to be done...when she dumped the tub on her head!

Fun With Balls

Sophie loves playing with balls. I gathered up all the balls we had and put them in a basket and then we played and played. We rolled them, threw them, and squeezed them. We took them out of the basket and put them back in again. We tried to balance them on our heads and held them under our chins.

Then it was time to read.

Combining Colors

Today, I showed Sophie how to make purple. We used water and red and blue food coloring. She loved seeing the colors swirling around.

Sophie's Most Favorite Book

Sophie got this book for her birthday from the church receptionist. It is called The Life Size Zoo Book. The photographs in the book are actual size, and Sophie will flip through the pages all day long. The giraffe, elephant, and rhino are actually flip out pages since those animals are so big.

First Day of Preschool

I asked Paul to bring Sophie to preschool for her first day (so I could focus on work and greeting the other parents). It was pouring down rain. It ended up being torrential, with roads flooded and the roof leaking. Sophie wore a new dress my friend Devon gave us before she was even born. It went perfectly with some leopard=print shoes I found.




Look how big she is!

She had a great first day. There were a couple of other kids crying and Sophie kept looking at them like she was confused, couldn't figure out why they were crying. I am so glad we have such a wonderful place where she can play and learn!

After class, we had to finish up some work in my office. This is how she entertained herself...Taking all the paper out of the recycling bin and putting it in a laundry basket.

Carousel Ride at the Zoo

We finally made it to the carousel today! Yea! Sophie had a blast. We were the last ones off because she wouldn't let go.

Watching Giraffes

She loves watching the giraffes! And today we were treated to a special ostrich dance. He was running all around and waving his wings. Honestly, he looked a little crazy.

I think Sophie likes the giraffes so much because there isn't much between her and them, just this open-post fence then a small pond. Since she's a climber this is what she does trying to get a better look (see pics below).
