Fall Fest 2009

This was Sophie's first Fall Fest at our church. She got to ride the Little Blue Choo Choo, twice. She loved it!

We watched Daddy play some games and then had lunch while the praise band played. She ended up falling asleep during all the singing!

There had been a preview of Silent Auction items in the weeks before the event. there was a child's art table and chair set that I made sure Paul knew Sophie wanted it. We did bid on it, but didn't get to stay through the end so we figured we'd be outbid, but...no! We are now the proud owners of a Bill Miller original. It looks so great in my apple accented kitchen. Pictures of the table to follow later.

We had a great time and want to say a special "Thank You" to Ms. Sharon for making it all happen!

Going to Work With Mommy

Although my mom was still here, I took her and Sophie with me to work so I could get used to it. I have a wonderful job that allows me to take my child to work, but I wasn't sure how it would be having her in the office with me. Mom was available this first day to do bottle feedings and help get her to nap, but after this, I'll be on my own.

Here we are getting ready for the first day of preschool.

All dressed!

Hanging out in Mommy's office.

I have her pack n' play in the corner. It is great because it has an attached diaper changer and storage for diaper and other stuff. I cleared out a drawer in the desk to hold bottles, formula, water, diapers, extra clothes, and a few other items. The church has a bouncer and swing that I've put in the office, and there is also an exersaucer I can use if I need it. I found a front pack carrier that I will use some, especially while I'm just sitting at the computer, or when I need to walk the halls and check on classes.

All the staff has name badges that have their title (i.e director, teacher). I made Sophie one too that hangs on her pack n' play. Her title is Quality Control. I figure she'll be the one to test any new toys or make sure any new teachers are good enough for our preschool. The other teachers kids are just fascinated that there is a baby in my office. Several would ask where she was while my mom had her at home. I have even used Sophie as the "treat" to get one little girl to take a nap. If she stayed on her mat and was quiet, after nap she could come help me with the baby. Worked like a charm, she was so quiet and still she fell asleep and didn't wake up until time to go!

Adding Carrots

Our next food to add was carrots. Definitely a lot more messy than cereal or applesauce! But
she does seem to enjoy her veggies.

A Quiet Baby Isn't Always a Good Thing

I put Sophie in her swing so I could wash up some bottles and switch the laundry. She wasn't completely thrilled to be there, talking and "screaming" at me. (She as been likened to a velociraptor with her talking.) After a few minutes, she got real quiet. I wnet to check on her and this is what I found. She had somehow gotten the toy bar off and was chewing and the plastic end.

Applesauce

We added homemade applesauce as our second food choice. My mom had made it special for Sophie. She seemed to like (although still not sure if her tummy really tolerated it). The video is of her expression whenever we gave her some. You'd think she didn't like it but she kept coming back for more.

First Haircut

I know there are some women out there that would be shocked to know I cut my 4-month-olds hair. but she needed a trim. She had these two "wings" on either side of her head. Sometimes they even looked like little horns.

Since my mom is a hairdresser, she of course did the honors, trimming those wings just a little. Now she looks even more beautiful.

First Birthday Party

I was invited to one of my students birthday party. It was at one of those jumping bounce house places. I took Sophie with me and we had lots of fun.

She was passed around from one mom to the other. Before we left I did get some pictures of her pretend playing.

High School Football at Cowboys Stadium

We found out that my alma mater was playing their football game at the new stadium on Labor Day, so we decided to go. After standing in this really long line, we finally made it into the stadium and found seats. (We really should have arrived sooner so we could get better seats.) It was time for Sophie's bottle and of course she promptly fell asleep afterwards. She ended up sleeping through the entire halftime show (the only reason I wanted to go), but did awake to see some of the 3rd quarter. She is definitely going to take after her mom and be a tv person. She LOVED the huge jumbotron.

First Food

At Sophie's 4 month check-up, the doctor said we could start her on cereal and baby food. He is pretty relaxed about the whole process, believing that as parents we have to decide exactly how to proceed. He did have some suggestions (like start slow, add foods one at a time, let her determine how much to eat), but said we could introduce whichever foods we wanted. I chose to wait a few days until her actual 4 month birthday, which also corresponds to our monthly Chinese meal for MIC. So in MIC's honor, Sophie's first food was RICE cereal!

I let her play with the spoon while I got the cereal ready.

She wasn't too sure about it, but didn't gag and may have even swallowed some.

Of course, we also had to give her some in the traditional Chinese way...with Chopsticks.
On a side note, a funny story about Paul. He would always look at me funny when I would mention that Sophie's first food would probably be cereal. It wasn't until recently that I found out why. In his mind cereal was the same stuff we eat. So he was trying to figure out how she was going to eat Raisin Bran and Captain Crunch.

You've Got a Baby...in a Bar!

Fantasy football has started! Sophie and I spent draft night watching a Disney movie, but we did join Daddy at the sports bar to eat lunch and watch the first game. Really, we only saw about half a quarter of football before we went home.

Lunch with Priscilla

Daddy's friend Priscilla gave me this pretty Ralph Lauren dress. We went to eat at Chuy's, usually they go to eat sushi or pho. We had lots of fun!

First Teacher Work Day with Mommy

So, this is how I spent my day at Mommy's preschool for the first day of inservice. I looked really cute until about 5 minutes after we got there. (Big potty while sitting in the car seat can make a mess.) Mommy had remembered to bring all kind of extras (extra bottles, extra diapers, extra water and formula, extra blankets) but no extra clothes!

Since this day she has taken extra clothes to leave in her desk.
